A proven governance leader, Mrs. Alderton was elected to the Alexandria City School Board in 2018 and served two full terms, completing her service in December 2024. She made history as the second African American woman to serve as Board Chair for Alexandria City Public Schools (ACPS), holding the role from January 2021 to July 2023. During her tenure, she led superintendent evaluations, co-drafted state-level legislation to improve pre-licensure teacher preparation in crisis prevention and behavioral supports, and played a pivotal role in shaping ACPS’s Connected High School Network model.

Mrs. Alderton’s influence extends beyond district leadership. Her leadership earned her the Northern Virginia Regional Leadership Award from George Mason University’s Schar School of Policy and Government in 2023.

Navigating ACPS through the COVID-19 pandemic, Mrs. Alderton worked closely with staff, educators, and community stakeholders to ensure a seamless transition between virtual and in-person learning. She continues her commitment to educational equity as an advisory board member for EduTutorVA and a Board Director for the Alexandria Tutoring Consortium.

With over two decades in education, Mrs. Alderton began her career as a special education teacher and later served as the Director of Student Support Services at Washington Latin Public Charter School. She has designed professional learning programs for educators serving high-needs students and developed a special education course for the INCLUDE DC Program, offering graduate credits through Catholic University of America and Trinity University.

Mrs. Alderton brings a strategic, student-centered approach to governance, policy development, and school improvement. As a consulting partner with Revolutionary ED, she supports board-superintendent teams in fostering strong governance structures, driving policy alignment, and ensuring transformational leadership that prioritizes student success.
